Guides for your first job

Set up Naukri, LinkedInand Instahyre properly.

Headline, notice period, preferred role, photo, skills order — a five-point setup checklist for each of the three platforms freshers use most.

  • Three platformsfive points each
  • Notice periodwording that matters
  • What recruitersactually search on

Naukri

Headline

A specific role + key skill, not "Fresher looking for opportunities". Example: "Fresher Software Engineer — React, Node.js".

Availability

If you have no current job and can join now, select "Immediate" or the closest truthful option. If you need time, state the real availability.

Preferred role & industry

Choose roles and industries you are genuinely targeting so your preferences help you evaluate relevant openings.

Photo

A plain, professional headshot, not a full-body or group photo. Optional on Naukri but improves how the profile reads at a glance.

Skills order

List your strongest, most relevant real skills first so a recruiter can quickly understand what you know. Do not add skills just for a search match.

LinkedIn

Headline

Below your name, not just your current status — "Aspiring Software Engineer | React & Node.js | Building [X]" reads far stronger than "Student at [College]".

Open to Work banner

Turn it on, set to recruiters-only if you'd rather it not be visible to your current network, and list the specific roles and locations you want.

About section

Three to four sentences: who you are, what you've built, what you're looking for. Not a copy-paste of your resume's objective line.

Photo

A clear, well-lit headshot — profiles with a photo get substantially more views than ones without, and a blurry or group photo undercuts an otherwise strong profile.

Skills order

Pin your top 3 most relevant skills — LinkedIn lets you reorder and feature specific ones, and those are what shows most prominently.

Instahyre

Headline / title

Specific and technical — Instahyre is used heavily by tech recruiters, so a precise title (not "Fresher") gets matched to relevant searches.

Experience field

Set to 0-1 years accurately — Instahyre's recruiter-search filters rely on this being precise, unlike a more forgiving free-text field elsewhere.

Expected CTC

A realistic range, not left blank and not inflated — see the CTC guide before setting this, since an unrealistic figure filters you out of roles you'd have been considered for.

Photo

A professional headshot, same standard as LinkedIn — Instahyre profiles are curated and reviewed by recruiters directly.

Skills order

Complete the full skills section — Instahyre is a curated platform, so a sparse profile is far less likely to be surfaced at all, regardless of order.

QUESTIONS? WE'VE GOT ANSWERS

Common questions

Profile setup that actually gets you found

Should my notice period say "immediate" if I'm still a student?
Only if you can actually join immediately. If college commitments or another obligation delay your start date, choose the closest truthful availability. "Serving notice period" is for someone currently employed and working out their notice.
Do I need a professional photo on all three platforms?
A clear, appropriate headshot helps on LinkedIn and Instahyre specifically, where profiles are browsed visually by recruiters. It matters less on Naukri, where search is more keyword-driven, but a plain professional photo never hurts.
Should my headline be identical across all three platforms?
The core information (role + key skill) should be consistent, but you can adapt the exact wording per platform's norms — LinkedIn headlines tend to be a bit more personal in tone, Naukri and Instahyre more literal and keyword-focused.
How often should I update these profiles?
Whenever something meaningful changes — a new project, a completed certification, a change in target role — rather than on a fixed schedule. An outdated profile with old information active is worse than a slightly infrequently updated but accurate one.
Does profile completeness actually affect whether recruiters find me?
A complete and current profile gives recruiters more information to assess your fit. Naukri itself recommends completing and updating profile details; exact ranking behaviour varies and is not something we can guarantee.
Should I list my expected salary if I'm not sure what's reasonable?
Research a realistic range first rather than guessing — the CTC guide explains offer structure, and general role-specific figures can be researched from postings for similar roles. Leaving it blank or wildly overestimating both hurt your visibility in searches that filter on it.
